West Wincanton is the name given to a planning application to build a massive 650 houses on a working farm to the West of Wincanton. This would potentially add another 1500 people and 1300 vehicles.

This speculative Outline Planning Application (24/01257/OUT) has just been submitted to Somerset Council by a Land Promoter called LVA.

The planning application can be viewed on the Planning section of the Somerset Council website.

This planning application will have a significant impact on our healthcare system, environment, roads and community.

THE RED OUTLINE SHOWS THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT AREA.

THE ADJACENT YELLOW OUTLINE HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR 80 HOUSES AND AN EXTENSION OF THE INDUSTRIAL AREA.
ABOUT US
We are a group of residents who are concerned about the continual unsustainable development in Wincanton. We feel that we have reached a tipping point with a planning application for the destruction of a working farm and the loss of our natural environment.

We are not against development but feel that 'brownfield' sites such as The Tythings are more suitable than destroying good agricultural land that is unconnected to the built environment of the town and outside any approved area of the Adopted Local Plan and the Wincanton Neighbourhood Plan.
Any further development should be contained within the built environment of the town and respect the character and history of Wincanton.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

WHAT CAN I DO?
Stop West Wincanton encourages everyone to make their views known.
If you care about Wincanton's overstretched facilities and overdevelopment of our countryside, then please read as much of the information as you can and make your views known on the Planning Portal for Somerset Council, using the link in red above.

NB: There is no longer a deadline for public comments on the Planning Portal, you can continue to post your opinions until the application is determined.

Please do not delay in making your comments, you can comment multiple times on the Planning Portal.

Wincanton Town Council is also a statutory consultee, so it is important to contact them as soon as possible, and urge them to reject this overdevelopment, as they did in 2019 for a previous application on part of the farm.

Spread the word about this overdevelopment planning application, and this website, to your friends, family, and neighbours.
